LK Universal

LK Universal is a unique system primarily based on our own Swedish manufactured PE-X pipes, plus our P-AL pipes with a common range of PressPex fittings. The system is for both heating and potable (drinking) water applications. LK Universal pipes can also be used for Under Floor Heating; saving both time and waste of materials.

An approved and safe system

LK Universal provides safe, secure leak-free installations. LK Universal is approved for use with potable water in Britain and Northern Ireland (UK Approval Certificate KIWA0701705) and has also been tested to many other international regulations and test methods, including the worlds toughest industry rules for leak-tightness; Norway’s Nordtest NT HEPAC 129. Properly installed, LK Universal simply will not leak.

The range includes so called “pipe-in-pipe”, where the carrier pipe is contained within conduit. In the UK, Building Regulations demand that all pipes buried in screed and concrete must be installed in conduit. This has real advantages; the conduit insulates the carrier pipes and in the event of an accident with a rogue screw, the PE-X pipe is easily replaced.

LK offers two types of pipe, both offering advantages; the choice is yours. And, no disadvantages; the fittings are universal to both pipe.

LK Universal PE-Xa pipe

LK’s own production cross-linked polyethylene pipe (PE-Xa), is classified as PE100, the toughest class of PE, making it ideal for central manifold systems and fast “cabling” installation techniques that cut costs when used with expensive skilled labour. LK Universal PE-X pipe is available in 16 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm and supplied in coils up to 500 m. Additionally, it is supplied as “Pipe-in-Pipe” (i.e. ready installed in grey universal conduit) or the grey universal conduit can be supplied separately. LK Universal PE-X pipe has an integral oxygen diffusion barrier, to prevent metallic corrosion.

LK Universal PAL pipe

LK’s PE-RT/AL/PE-RT pipe (2 layers of Raised Temperature PE, with an inner layer of Aluminium) is a multi-layer composite pipe, with expansion and contraction properties similar to copper. If straightened or bent, it is form stable; it also benefits from a high quality, white gloss finish. LK Universal PAL pipe is ideal for plumbing installations where the pipe must be visible and for rising primary pipes. LK Universal PAL pipe is available in sizes 16 mm to 63 mm and available in coils and straight lengths; it is 100 % oxygen diffusion resistant.

LK Universal Press Fittings

Proven time and time again to be the most secure system for high-tech plastic plumbing pipes, Press Fit connections are made simply and quickly; all that is required is to de-burr, assemble and press. LK Universal press tools are ergonomic, simple to use and robust. Additional security is provided by in-built leak indicators, so that should a joint be assembled, but the press operation missed or forgotten, at system test pressurisation, there is immediate and precise indication of problem; a problem that can be easily and securely resolved.

LK PressPex connections are type approved for all LK Universal PE-X pipes and PAL pipes up to dim 63 mm.
LK PressPex connections may only be used for LK PE-X Universal pipe (type X) and LK PAL Universal pipe (type A).
The connections may be used for joining other makes of pipes provided the pipes have the same nominal measurements that are indicated in the connection type approval certificate and that approval has been granted by LK.

LK PressPex connection is primarily intended for heating, potable water and cooling water systems and may not be used for the distribution of gas.

The designation AX means that the connection is intended for both LK Universal pipes PAL and PE-X and has a grey plastic ring.
The designation A means that the connection is intended for LK PAL Universal pipe and has a grey plastic ring.

LK PressPex is delivered in nickel plated brass for dim 16-32. Dim 40-63 is supplied in plain brass. Dim 16-32 benefits from leakage indication.

See assembly instructions for pressing with LK PressPex connections in LK Universal manual. For the range of press machines and jaws please refer to the separate product catalogue:Press tools.

Note! To save time when installing, the press steps can be left so that a greater amount of compressions are made in a row. In these cases there is a great risk that the pipe ends partially slip out of the connection or that some connections do not get compressed. A careful check should therefore be made to avoid leakage.

LK recommends joint free pipe-in-pipe systems between visible connection points or placing the connection points in spaces with leakage indication. A joint free installation is always the safest option.
